PONCA CITY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT NEWS

Vaccines are available for no charge at the Kay County Health Department and many other locations in Ponca City.

CDC GUIDELINES

The FDA has approved the Pfizer vaccine that will now be called the Comirnaty vaccine. This vaccine is approved for those 16 years of age and older. The vaccine will continue to have an emergency use authorization for those 12 to 15 years of age.

NOTICE: CDC now recommends that people whose immune systems are compromised moderately to severely should receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses. Widespread vaccination is a critical tool to help stop the pandemic. Currently, CDC is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose. This includes people who have:

• Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood

• Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system

• Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system

• Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)

• Advanced or untreated HIV infection

• Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

Protect Unvaccinated Family Members

Some people in your family may need to take more steps to be better protected from COVID-19, including:

• Anyone not fully vaccinated, including children under 12 who cannot be vaccinated yet

• People with weakened immune systems or underlying medical conditions

Travel

• Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and while indoors at U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. Travelers are not required to wear a mask in outdoor areas of a conveyance (like on open deck areas of a ferry or the uncovered top deck of a bus).

About the Delta Variant: Vaccines continue to reduce a person’s risk of contracting the virus that cause COVID-19, including this variant. Vaccines are highly effective against severe illness, but the Delta variant causes more infections and spreads faster than earlier forms of the virus that causes COVID-19.
