RECPLEX NEWS PAINT NIGHTS AT THE RECPLEX

• Paint Nights in the Rec-Plex Art Studio – Get in touch with your artistic side, no matter what your skill level!

• The class is April 18, at 5:00 p.m.

• For ages 12 and up. Cost is $30.00, and $5.00 for each additional family member.

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

• Learn how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies with the American Red Cross lifeguard training. This course designed to arm you with the skills and knowledge to prepare you for a variety of scenarios in and around the water. With this lifeguard training, you will learn how quick response times and effective preparation are vital to being a lifeguard, while also understanding the crucial elements in helping to prevent drownings and injuries.

• Class dates are April 24 and 25. This is a 2-day class on Saturday and Sunday and meet from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.

• For ages 15 and up. The cost is $150.00 per participant.

5K COLOR BLAST FUN RUN

• Color blast runs are a fun way to experience a 5K race with friends and family while being outdoors enjoying the sunshine and spring weather. Enrollees registered by April 23 will receive a race shirt that is perfect to wear as you run through five various color stages!

• Saturday, May 8, 9:00 a.m., at the RecPlex Outdoor Walking Track.

• This event is for all ages! The cost is $15.00 per participant.

MOVIES ON THE LAWN

• This FREE event is back at the RecPlex lawn! Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray. Youth and teens under the age of 14 are asked to have adult supervision. Please practice proper social distancing. The lawn opens at 8:00 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk.

o Coco is playing Wednesday, May 5.

o Batman and Robin is playing Thursday, June 3.

o Wonder Woman is playing Saturday, June 19.

KIDS NIGHT OUT

• Sign up your kids for this 5-hour fun-filled Kids Night Out! Your child will have a great time at the RecPlex while you get to go out to dinner, enjoy a date night or just take advantage of the quiet in your home. The RecPlex will provide dinner, multiple crafts, a popcorn bar, snacks and a movie.

• Saturday, May 8, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with check-in starting at 5:00 p.m.

• For ages 6 weeks to 12 years. The cost is $35.00 for the first child, and $10.00 per sibling.

SAFESITTER BABYSITTING ESSENTIALS

• Safesitter Babysitting Essentials in the RecPlex Art Studio is designed to prepare students to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting. This instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises.

• This is a two-day class on May 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and May 22 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

• For 6th thru 8th grade age participants. The cost is $75.00 per participant.

FREE YOUTH FISHING CLINIC

• Ponca City Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife to host a FREE fishing clinic for youth. Learn the tricks of baiting hooks, making perfect casts and how to reel in the “big ones”.

• This clinic is on Tuesday, June 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the Marland Mansion grounds.

• For ages 5-12 years old. All youth who are interested in attending must pre-register.

JUNE 2021 CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT

• Come join in on one of the most popular outdoor games at the annual Cornhole Tournament at the Replex! Find your own doubles partner, or register individually for the blind draw and be paired up with someone new. It is a double elimination tournament with prizes awarded to first and second places.

• Saturday, June 12, starting at 10:00 a.m., on the RecPlex West Lawn

• For ages 16 and up. Cost is $15.00 for individuals and $20.00 for teams.

FAMILY HEALTH & FITNESS DAY

• The RecPlex will be taking part in the National Recreation and Parks Association’s Family Health & Fitness Day. The community is invited to take part by visiting the Rec-Plex for a FREE open house. Visitors will be able to take a tour, take part in a fitness class, enjoy the aquatics area or partake of any of the other amenitites the facility has to offer. There will be a variety of drawings and contests made available thoroughout the day.

• This event is on Saturday, June 12, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. KAYAK LESSONS

• Do you want to learn the fundamentals of kayaking? These beginner lessons will teach you important safety practices, identify the different types of equipment, the basic strokes and techniques that are fundamental to all types of kayaking.

• Lesson dates are on Mondays, June 14, June 28 and July 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Kayak Barn at Lake Ponca.

• For ages 13 and up. The cost is $25.00 per lesson.

KAYAK TOURS

• Take a tour of beautiful Lake Ponca at sunrise. The kayak and the life jacket will be provided, just bring something to drink and your love of the outdoors!

• Tour dates are on Thursdays, June 17 thru July 22, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at the Kayak Barn at Lake Ponca.

• For ages 18 and up. The cost is $30.00 per tour date. Ages 50 and older are FREE!

YOUTH ART CAMP AT THE RECPLEX

• Unlease your child’s inner artist at the RecPlex’s Youth Art Camp! In this 4-day camp, students will explore a different medium each day with instruction from a professional artist. Students will learn and express their creativity in acrylics, water color, printmaking and pottery. All supplies for the camp are provided and each registrant will receive a camp t-shirt.

• This camp is Monday thru Thursday, June 14-17, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Rec-Plex Artist Studio.

• For 4th grade to 8th grade age participants. The cost is $75.00 for the camp.

YOUTH CHESS CAMP AT THE RECPLEX

• Whether your child is a casual chess player or tournament participant, this exciting enrichment camp will improve every child’s game. Chess has many benefits for children and can be the avenue for growth and development in many ways. The camp instructor uses a range of teaching tools that keep student engaged and having fun while, learning the game.

• This camp is Monday thru Thursday, June 21-24, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the RecPlex Artist Studio.

• For 5th grade to 9th grade age participants. The cost is $25.00 for the camp. Each registrant will receive a camp t-shirt.

RECPLEX YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Youth sports or youth programs are eligible for youth scholarships at the RecPlex. No funds will go to monthly memberships for youth or adults. The participant shall pay $15.00 for any youth sport or program if appropriate Proof of Need has be presented and funds are available.

Applicants are required to provide in person the Proof of Need listed below to the Parks and Recreation office at the RecPlex between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and must talk with the Secretary or the Membership Specialist.

Eligibility Criteria, Parent/ Guardian of youth participant must:

• Request scholarship prior to registration deadline

• Provide Proof of Need from one of the following:

o Involvement in Free or Reduced Lunch Program

o Involvement in the Temporary Assistants for Needy Families Program from Oklahoma

Department of Human Services

o Involvement in a group home subsequent to the minor being judicially place in the

custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services

SAVE THE DATE – The Ponca City Council of Garden Clubs is digging in the dirt again this year in preparation for their annual "Plant's For Pleasure” fundraiser - Saturday, May 1st on the patio of Cann Gardens. Plants will be available at 8 a.m. and will run until noon or sold out.

Anyone wishing to donate plants may drop them off during the week before the sale at the Muchmore home - 2 Hillcrest Drive across from Cann Gardens - leave on the West porch; or, Friday afternoon, April 30th, at Cann Gardens. Make sure they’re potted, tagged and noted - color, shade and/or sun.

TONKAWA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL BANQUET

The Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce announces its 105th Annual Banquet. The event this year will look a little different than in the past.

On Thursday, April 22, 2021, 6-8 p.m., the Chamber will host an outdoor event called the Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce Awards Social. This event will be held at the Tonkawa Hotel/Casino, located at 16601 W. South Avenue, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, 6-8 p.m. The menu will be heavy hors d’oeuvres including dessert and a cash bar will be available. The awards part of the evening is at 7:00 p.m. under the tent. Dress is casual as we encourage a fun evening of fellowship.

Our program highlights the accomplishments of Tonkawa, including the announcement of our award recipients for Employee of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Lifetime Service Award.

Tickets are $25.00 each and may be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office, 102 E. Grand Ave. If you would like your tickets mailed to you, please call 580-628-2220. Checks should be made payable to Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce. Please have your tickets purchased by 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 to ensure availability of tickets for you and your guests.
