A small groundbreaking ceremony for the Ponca Tribe’s Hope and Recovery Center, previously known as SDC, was held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. This event was small and socially distanced in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This funding was made possible by a 2017 grant award ed from the Department of Justice. Due to no activity on the grant, the $1,000,000 funding was almost lost. Thanks to the diligent work of Project Manager Brenton Carney and Health Services Director Daniel Sherron, the Department of Justice allowed the project to proceed. Construction is expected to begin in February.

The Center Director, Carol Leclair, is a previously Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor with 30+ years of experience in the rehabilitation field. Also, the Center is incredibly fortunate to have a Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC)/ Licensed Alcohol Drug Counselor(LADC) who is also a Ponca Tribal Member, Mrs. Deborah (Crane) Margerum. The Recovery of Ponca Tribal afflicted members will be the Ponca Tribe’s continued priority for 2021.

Patients in need of intensive outpatient counseling can still receive services while the Center is closed for remodel. The Hope and Recovery Center is on it’s way!
