Fatality collision on Highway 11 North of Ponca City

A fatality collision occurred on Sunday, Oct. 18 at approximately 10:33 a.m. on Highway 11 between Waverly and Union Street, just three miles north of Ponca City.

Troopers report that a 2013 Ford F-150 driven by Jerry Johns, 73, Ponca City, was traveling westbound on Highway 11, when he reportedly crossed the center line into the eastbound lane, then entered the eastbound shoulder, striking a 2015 Ford Expedition driven by John Holden, 74, Braman, causing a head on collision.

Highway Patrolmen report Holden’s vehicle rolled half a roll and came to a rest on its top before catching fire.

The troopers also report that the drivers of both vehicles were pinned for approximately 3.5 hours before being extricated by Ponca City Fire, Newkirk Fire and Kildare Fire, using the Hurst tool.

Johns was declared deceased by Ponca City EMS on scene due to injuries sustained from the crash. His body was transported by the Medical Examiner to their office in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Holden was declared deceased by Ponca City EMS on scene due to injuries sustained from the crash and was also transported by the medical Examiner to their office in Oklahoma City.

His passenger, Andrew Holden, 38, Braman, was transported by Ponca City EMS to AllianceHealth Ponca City and then to Integris Baptist Medical Center in OKC. He was admitted in fair condition due to head and internal trunk injuries.

A second passenger, age 4, Braman, was transported by Ponca City EMS to AllianceHealth Ponca City and then to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, where she was admitted in fair condition due to head and internal trunk injuries.

Troopers report the odor of alcohol was present in the Jerry Johns’ vehicle.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
