Body

December 12, 2020 marks Dthe annual return of the Children’s Christmas Shop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To be able to appropriately social distance, the event will be held in the gym at the St. Francis Catholic Church located at 610 W. 9th St. in Newkirk.

With the assistance of the proficient elves, children may experience the thrill of Christmas shopping for their loved ones. Several local businesses including Finders Keepers and Grit and Grace Outdoors will have displays set up with items for the children to choose from with prices marked from $1.00 to $15.00. All items are priced in even dollar amounts.

Parents and guardians may check their children in with the host/hostess and they will be notified when their child(ren) have completed their shopping. This is a great opportunity for the kids to shop by themselves or with the assistance of the elves. Activities such as these help them develop a feeling of self confidence and accomplishment. All gifts will be wrapped and tagged so that they may be placed under the tree when the children arrive home.

For younger shoppers, Newkirk Main Street is asking that you please send a list stating whom the children are buying for such as grandma, mom, dad or sister, along with their ages. Including a budget amount will also help the elves assist the shoppers with responsible money management techniques.

For those who are interested in volunteering there are opportunities available from Friday through Sunday including setup and tear down, door greeters and shoppers. Sign up can be found online at volunteersignup.org/WP4WE, on the Newkirk Main Street Facebook page or you may call the Newkirk Main Street office at 580-362-2377.

The shop will also be open on Sunday, December 13th from 12 p.m.-2p.m. for adults to shop. There are no age restrictions and it is a great chance for one stop shopping with merchandise from several local merchants, without having to fight crowds. However, gift wrapping will not be available. Stop by and get that gift for your UPS delivery postman or woman, school teacher and all the other helpers in your life and help to spread some Christmas cheer!

Both volunteers and attendees will need to wear a mask and social distance and also use hand sanitizer which will be provided. As an additional Covid-19 precaution, appointments are being taken for shoppers. To schedule an appointment please call Newkirk Main Street at 580-362-2377.
