The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported on Tuesday morning that another 858 Oklahomans have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the state numbers to 17,229.

Kay County has 113 of those cases, up one case from reports on Monday. Ponca City has 106 of those cases with 81 recoveries.

Five additional deaths were also reported in Carter County, Delaware County, Garvin County. McCurtain County and Muskogee County. A total of 404 deaths have now been reported in Oklahoma.

The number of hospitalizations also continues to increase in Oklahoma with 426 hospitalized as of Tuesday morning.

A surge of confirmed new cases in recent weeks, particularly among young people, prompted mayors in Oklahoma City and Tulsa last week to impose new requirements that bar and restaurant workers wear masks while working.

Oklahoma currently ranks 36th in the number of total reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and 43rd in the cumulative incidence (per 100,000 persons) of reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S.

It is critical for Oklahomans to seek out testing, with or without symptoms.

Diagnostic testing is freely available to all Oklahomans, and we continue to improve our ability to find and diagnose COVID-19 cases through our contact tracing efforts. If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, a public health worker may try to contact you; the need to adhere to instructions to quarantine and isolate remain critically important.

Anyone traveling into Connecticut, New York or New Jersey from three additional states — Delaware, Kansas and Oklahoma — must now self-quarantine for 14 days to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Tuesday’s announcement means a total of 19 states now meet the criteria of having a new daily positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a 10% or higher positive rate over a seven-day rolling average.
