Candidate filing begins for municipal offices

Candidates interested in filing for municipal offices in Kay County municipalities will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning 8 a.m. Monday December 5, 2022.

Carol Leaming, Secretary of the Kay County Election Board, said Declaration of Candidacy forms must be completed and submitted to the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday December 7, 2022 when the filing period ends. Leaming reminds voters that Contest of Candidacy must be filed no later than Friday, December 9, 2022 and may only be filed by another candidate for that office, unless a candidate files unopposed.

Declaration of Candidacy will be accepted for the following offices:

Blackwell Municipality:

Mayor — 3 year term Ward #2 Councilor — 2 year term Ward #3 Councilor — 1 year term

Ponca City Municipality:

Commissioner #1 — 3 year term Commissioner #3 — 3 year term Declaration of Candidacy forms can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections or by contacting your County Election Board office at 580 362 2130 or kaycounty@elections.ok.gov.

CANDIDATE FILING BEGINS FOR BOARD OF EDUCATION

Candidates for the Board of Education in Blackwell, Kildare, Newkirk, Peckham, Ponca City, Tonkawa, and Pioneer Technology Center in Kay County School Districts will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning 8 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2022.

If more than two candidates file for the same vacant Board of Education position, a Primary Election will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2022. If one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the vacant position during the Board of Education General Election, April 14, 2022. If only two candidates file for the same vacant Board of Education position, those two candidates’ names will appear on the General Election Ballot in April.

• Kildare School District Office No. 2 for a 3 year term

• Newkirk School District Office No. 3 for a 5 year term

• Peckham School District Office No. 3 for a 3 year term

• Tonkawa School District Office No. 3 for a 5 year term

The Kay County Election Board is located at 201 S. Main St. in Newkirk, OK 74647 and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

OSAGE COUNTY

Candidates for the Board of Education in Osage County school districts will file their Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2022, and continuing Tuesday and Wednesday, Osage County Election Board Secretary Kelly Chouteau said today.

Chouteau said the official filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. All candidate filings will occur at the Osage County Election Board office, 630 Kihekah Ave., in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Chouteau said.

The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Board of Education Primary Election scheduled February 14, 2023, and the Board of Education General Election on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the General Election. If more than two candidates file, a Primary Election will be held. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the General Election.

Candidates may file for the following offices:

• Anderson C-52 School District – Position No. 3, 3 year term

• Avant C-35 School District – Position No. 2, 3 year term & Position No. 1, 2 year unexpired term

• Barnsdall I-29 School District – Position No. 3, 5 year term

• Bowring C-7 School District – Position No. 1, 3 year term

• Hominy I-38 School District – Position No. 3, 5 year term

• McCord C-77 School District – Position No. 3, 3 year term

• Osage Hills C-3 School District – Position No. 3, 3 year & Position No. 2, 2 year unexpired term

• Pawhuska I-2 School District - Position No. 3, 5 year term

• Prue I-50 School District – Position No. 3, 5 year term

• Shidler I-11 School District – Position No. 2, 4 year unexpired term & Position No. 3, 5 year term

• Woodland I-90 School District – Position No. 3, 5 year term
