BLACKWELL — A fatality accident was reported on Thursday, July 8 at 12:37 p.m. on US 177, one mile north of Blackwell.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Billy Dean Burrow, 71, Hunnewell, Kan. was driving a 1990 Ford pickup northbound on US 177 and for an unknown reason departed the roadway to the left, striking a concrete culvert. Burrow was pinned for approximately 90 minutes and extricated by the Blackwell Fire Department.

He died on the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.

His passenger, Stanley Cook, 53, Hunnewell, Kan. was transported by Life Flight to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. and was treated and released.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
