MJ&H Fabrication in Ponca City and Pioneer Technology Center (PTC) teamed up once again for the Fourth Annual Weld for Work Competition last week. This competition aligns newly graduated Pioneer Tech welders with jobs available in their district. PTC students competed, in a two-day event, testing their welding ability and fabrication skills. MJ&H put together a unique welding skill challenge for the students. First place went to Koby Wilson, POHI; 2nd place was Damon Smith, POHI; 3rd place Jonathan Arteaga, Blackwell; 4th place Trey Reese, Woodland; 5th place Bryce Gilliland, POHI; and 6th place Brody Spencer, Woodland. Oklahoma City – Students with disabilities, ages 16-21, will build top employment skills at free summer programs hosted live at 13 locations around the state by the Transition program in Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services.

Tribal leaders of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation say they are dropping “Creek” from its name as part of a rebranding effort. But members of the nation are not all on board with the change, and some say their identity is being stripped away from them and what they’ve known their entire lives.

I originally had a different topic in mind for this week, but last week I attended my mother’s graduation as she received her master’s degree. It was a really good day and I was very proud of her for all the work she put into it.

Thursday April 22, 2021 was a day of celebration in Kay County for Earth Day, the holiday’s 51st anniversary. Earth Day was created in 1970 and has grown into an event observed by a billion people in nearly 200 countries each year. It is a day of education about environmental issues and a global challenge to preserve and protect the environment. Each year Earth Day has a theme, for 2021 the theme is “Restore Our Earth.”

Introducing more talent performing at the Poncan Jubilee Dr. Dale Smith, founder of American Kid Talent Search and writer of the official Oklahoma Waltz, and Tim Muniz, formerly from Ponca City, who has been called one of the best vocalists in America, will be here at the Poncan Jubilee.
