Best music of 2020: Album of the year, artist of the year and more

Body
As far as live music goes, it had to be the worst year since the invention of the electric guitar, right? Stuck at home, artists were left with more time to write and record, so, combined with recordings that were in the can before the pandemic, it was a surprisingly plentiful year for new music. Let’s get to it: Album of the Year: “I am duty-bound to be here to simply say: That it is your duty not to burn your own house down for anger with an enemy.” That was Killer Mike, in Atlanta, at a mayoral news conference in May addressing protesters in one of the year’s most impassioned speeches.

Body
East Bay Times DON’T MISS: “Call Me Kat” -- After being a key part of “The Big Bang Theory” ensemble, Mayim Bialik gets another chance to headline her own sitcom. She plays a cafe owner in Louisville, Kentucky, who is determined to prove to society -- and her mother -- that she can live a happy and fulfilling life, despite still being single at 39. Although Kat celebrates her independence, her single-forever plans just might begin to veer off course when her former crush and good friend, Max (Cheyenne Jackson), returns to town. “Call Me Kat” is based on the BBC UK series “Miranda.” The show moves to its regular Thursday time slot on Jan. 7. (8 p.m. Sunday, Fox).

Ponca City Astronomy and the Christmas Star

Body
On Sunday and Monday evenings over 200 people got to look through some powerful amateur telescopes at the Ponca City RecPlex at the Planets Jupiter and Saturn as they were in conjunction. This event has been called the Christmas Star and was quite an event to see through a telescope of over 70 times magnification. The rings of Saturn as well as up to four of Jupiter’s moons were visible through the telescopes provided by Ponca City Astronomy. For the next week or so these planets will be visible in the West Southwest just after sunset.
