Xi Gamma Sigma Chapter met on October 13, 2020 at 12:30 in the home of Catherine Horner. The hostess served a light lunch of taco soup, with sopapilla cheesecake for dessert.

President Sharla Vetter opened the business meeting, and the roll was called. The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved. Pam Sober reported that City Council agreed on the decision to cancel the Preferential Tea this year, due to the Covid virus. She also reported that she is updating the standing rules and bylaws for the Council, and will get a copy to Ms. Vetter when they are completed. The next City Council meeting will be November 2nd at 6:00.

Committee reports were given, and Betty Jones reported that the Mission is closed now because of the virus. Kelly Conrady announced that she had a prospective member. The chapter voted to invite her friend to the next meeting.

Betty Jones reported that plans are being made for a going-away party for Barbara Feil, who will be living with her daughter, DeeDe. She gave Ms. Feil’s address: 19306 E. 49th Street So. , Broken Arrow, OK 74014, and encouraged everyone to send her a card.

The next meeting will be October 27 at 12:30 at the home of Cindy Russell, who will serve lunch before the meeting. Darlene VandeBerg gave an update on some past members. The business meeting was adjourned and members stood for the Closing Ritual. Secret sister reports were given and gifts were distributed. Roses and thorns were shared.

Catherine Horner presented the program. This being an election year and the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution granting the right to women to vote, she gave some of the history around the struggle for the women’s suffrage movement and she noted several Ponca City women who have achieved success in fields traditionally dominated by men.
