PONCA CITY PONCON COMING THIS FALL This fall, PonCon will be coming to Ponca City for the whole family. From October thru November, attendees can expect an animated film screening, delicious food from Food Trucks around City Central, the 2022 Micro-Fiction and Graphic Novel Contests, and a Geek Garage Sale for everyone to buy or sell.

Friends of the Library will be offering a prize of $50.00 to each of the winners of three (3) age categories for the Micro-Fiction Contest. Ponca City Art Association will be offering a prize of $50.00 to each of the winners of three (3) age categories for the Graphic Novel Contest. Submissions for the contest will be accepted from August 1 thru October 15. Competition rules will be available on the PonCon Facebook page, by contacting ponconinfo@ gmail.com or from the listed participating organizations below. All winners will be announced at noon, at the Geek Garage sale.

On Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Ponca City Library will host a free comeand-go Create Space (areas dedicated to tools and technologies the public may use to fix, create, learn and share.) Supplies such as paper, free photocopies, markers, staplers, etc. will be provided. No editing or technical services will be provided. Also, Ponca City Development Authority will have a sign-up sheet for access to high-resolution printing and 3D editing on a first-come first-serve basis at no charge.

The Ponca City Arts Association- City Arts is presenting an Art Show from November 3 thru 18, 2022 and are currently accepting submissions. For more information, contact City Arts at 580-765-9746 or terron@ pcarts.org.

The Geek Garage Sale will be Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at City Central. There will be a fee of $10.00 for sellers, which provides 1 to 2 tables with chairs. Set-up for the event will be the evening of Friday, November 4. This will be a free event for all to attend.

PonCon also encourages all attendees to make some time to go to the local Veterans Day Parade on November 5, 2022. Come and enjoy the events and see the sights around Ponca City. For additional information and updates email ponconinfo@ gmail.com.

• Come test your Fortnite skills at the RecPlex’s new PS5 consoles at the Friday Night Tournaments in the fall! Prizes to the winner and runner-up each week.

• Get your friends together and form your 4-on-4 Dodgeball team! Age and gender divisions based on the number of registrations.

• The Cluck, Oink, Moo 5K Run at Lake Ponca is back! After the race, enjoy tasting some delicious BBQ at the Cherokee Strip Cook off!

• The race will be chip timed and will begin on the west side of Lake Ponca, near the flag pole. Enrollees will receive a race shirt and a tasting kit for the Cook Off. In order to receive a shirt at the time of the run, enrollment must be completed by September 2.

• The race is on Saturday, September 17 beginning at 8:00 a.m.

• For ages 5 and older. The cost is $15.00

• This FREE event is coming back to the RecPlex! Bring your chairs blankets and bug spray to the RecPlex. Please social distance when possible.

• The first movie is Saturday, September 24 showing Free Guy (PG-13), from 8:00-10:00 p.m.

• For all ages. Youth and teens under 14 are asked to have adult supervision.

ADULT CO-ED VOLLEYBALL – FALL LEAGUE

• Playing volleyball is a great way to be active and healthy. You will meet new people and get a fullbody workout all while having fun.

• Games are every Tuesday, October 4 to November 15, at the RecPlex basketball court.

• For ages 16 and older. The cost is $200.00 per team

• The RecPlex in conjunction with the POHI Volleyball program is offering a youth volleyball league for girls.

• A 2-night work clinic will be on October 10 and 13.

• For 3rd -6 th grade girls. The cost is $55.00 per participant

• Safesitter Babysitting Essentials in the RecPlex Art Studio is designed to prepare students to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting. This instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises.

• This is a two-day class on October 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and October 15 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

• For ages 6 th thru 8 th grade age. The cost is $75.00 ($20.00 member discount).

Made possible by a grant from Oklahoma Humanities with generous funding and support from the Kirkpatrick Family Fund and Oklahoma City University, this program is FREE and open to all.

The theme this semester is: “The Worst Hard Time Revisited: Oklahoma in the Dust Bowl Years.” Through history, novels, letters, and poetry, readers learn how ordinary people coped with extraordinary circumstances.

During these programs, a book is distributed to interested community members in advance for reading. A scholar will come present background information on the book, author and themes for the audience and will help facilitate a discussion with those present. The book discussions will be on designated Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Library Programming Room.

TICKETS NOW ON SALE FOR HALL OF FAME BANQUET The Po-Hi Hall of Fame banquet will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022 at 7 p.m. at the Carolyn Renfro Event Center, 445 Fairview in Ponca City. Tickets are $50 per person or a reserved table for eight is $500 (eight tickets).

Tickets are now on sale and may be purchased at the PCPS Central Administration Building, 613 East Grand. Inquiries may be made to Chryl Gillespie at 580-767-8000.

The individuals selected to be inducted into the Ponca City High School Alumni Hall of Fame’s sixth annual induction ceremony include Walter Harris Jr. (Class of 1941), Don Schieber (Class of 1964), Lynn Moore (Class of 1966), John Stanley III (Class of 1979), Scott Askew (Class of 1980) and Elizabeth Poyner (Class of 1980).

Ticket sales proceeds will go towards Ponca City High School Hall of Fame Scholarships.
