Softball Lady Cats Win 2, Lose 2

BETHANY -- The Ponca City Lady Cats softball team won two and lost two over the weekend in the Bethany Tournament.

On Friday, the Lady Cats opened with a 9-1 loss to Bridge Creek, but bounced back with a 13-0 shutout over Geary. Saturday’s games involved a 9-4 victory over Classen SAS and a 7-5 loss to Pauls Valley.

Bridge Creek dominated the tournament opener, scoring five runs in the second inning, three in the third and one in the fourth. Ponca City’s only run came in the fifth. Libby Clark pitched for Ponca City, giving up 10 hits and four earned runs in four innings. She struck out three and walked one.

Bridge Creek outhit the Lady Cats 10 to 2. Picking up hits for Ponca City were Libby Clark and Alex Zimmerschied, each with a single.

Libby Clark pitched a onehitter in Friday’s second game. The Lady Cats outhit Geary 9-1. Libby Clark pitched four innings striking out eight Geary batters.

Picking up hits for the Lady Cats were Taylor McMartin, with three, Madelyn Blackstar with two and Savannah Clark, Margaret Blackstar, Haley Swinford and Taylin Fry with one hit each. Alex Zimmerschied, McMartin and Margaret Blackstar each had two RBIs while Savannah Clark, Madelyn Blackstar, Libby Clark, Emily Harraman, Tori Freeman and Taylin Fry each had one RBI. Madelyn Blackstar had a triple and McMartin had a double.

In the game against Classen SAS, Ponca City scored one in the first inning, six in the second and two in the third. Classen SAS had two runs in the first, one in the second and one in the third.

Savannah Clark was the Ponca City pitcher. She gave up five hits and three earned runs in three innings. She struck out five and walked one.

The Lady Cats had five hits. Margaret Blackstar and McMartin each had two hits while Savannah Clark had one. Margaret Blackstar had one RBI with a triple and McMartin had two doubles and drove home two runs.

in the 7-5 loss to Pauls Valley, Pauls Valley took a 2-0 lead in the first only to have Ponca City scored four in the bottom of the inning. Pauls Valley took a 6-4 lead with four in the second and added one in the fifth. Ponca City scored its fifth run in the botton of the second.

Libby Clark pitched for the Lady Cats going five innings. She allowed eight hits and six earned runs while striking out two.

Taylin Fry and Margaret Blackstar led the Ponca City hitting with two hits each. Savannah Clark, Alex Zimmerschied and Tori Freeman had one hit each. Freeman had a double and two RBIs. Savannah Clark had a double and one RBI, while Zimmerschied and Margaret Blackstar had one RBI a piece.
