Lady Cats softball at Perry Invitational Tournament

PERRY -- The Ponca City Lady Cats softball team completed a stint in the Perry Invitational Tournament Saturday having compiled a 1-5 record for its efforts.

Thursday, the Lady Cats lost to Perry 7-1 and to Blackwell 8-1. Friday they started the day with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Woodward and then dropped a 10-0 decision to Chickasha. There were two losses Saturday, one 15-0 to Edmond Memorial and the other 6-1 to Bethany.

The win over Woodward was achieved in dramatic fashion. The Lady Cats trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth but scored four times to pull off a walkoff victory.

Woodward had scored once in the third and twice in the sixth.

Margaret Blackstar got the sixth-inning rally started for Ponca City with a double with one out. Allanah Florez reached on an error and Libby Clark also got on base with an error. Taylor McMartin singled and a run scored as Tori Freeman reached base on a fielder’s choice. Alex Zimmerschied then cleared the bases with a double driving home Freeman with the winning run.

Libby Clark pitched the six-inning game for Ponca City. She gave up five hits and only one earned run during her stint. Ponca City committed five errors. Clark struck out six and walked none.

In the second game Friday, Chickasha out hit Ponca City 8-3 in its 10-0 victory. The winners scored three runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth.

Taylin Fry, Madelyn Blackstar and Margaret Blackstar had Ponca City’s hits. Margaret Blackstar’s hit was a double.

Savannah Clark pitched giving up 8 hits and seven earned runs in four innings. She walked five and struck out four.

Edmond Memorial scored six in the first, four in the second and five in the third in its 15-0 victory. Ponca City had only one hit, a single by Margaret Blackstar.

Savannah Clark pitch all three innings allowing 14 hits and 13 earned runs while walking three and striking out one.

In the final game, Bethany scored one in the fourth and five in the sixth in its 6-1 victory. Ponca City’s one run came in the fifth. The Lady Cats had five hits, two by Taylor McMartin, two by Margaret Blackstar and one by Taylin Fry one of McMartin’s hits was a double.

Libby Clark pitched for Ponca City giving up 13 hits and only one earned run in six innings. She walked one.

The Lady Cats are scheduled to play Sapulpa at the West Middle School softball field at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
