Editor,

Finding good healthcare is a problem for many Oklahomans who live in rural towns across our state. Hospitals are closing, and those seeking medical care are forced to drive long distances just to see a doctor.

It’s even more difficult if you face a cancer diagnosis. This is just one of the reasons why I’m voting no on State Question 814.

The Legislature is asking voters to take money away from the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), which funds cancer research at OU’s Stephenson Center and provides a grant to recruit and retain doctors in our rural communities. If State Question 814 passes, I worry about what consequences we’ll face in our medically underserved areas. With less money, TSET will do less.

On Election Day, tell the Legislature to leave this money alone by voting no on 814. TSET works for Oklahomans.
