Emalie “Jonet” (Smith) Dawson passed away Monday, November 7, 2022, in Ponca City, OK. 

Jonet was born on August 21, 1929, to Henry Warren and Lena Pearl Smith in Dillwyn, KS. She had a two year old brother, Warren, who welcomed her. Jonet had many relatives close by. In her younger years, her father was managing wheat elevators, and later decided to buy a farm. While she and her brother Warren were attending a country school, her brother Terry was added to the family. At six years old, Jonet experienced Oklahoma’s worst dust storm in history.

Virgle Odell Taylor

Virgle Odell Taylor, 90, went to his heavenly home surrounded by family, on November 6, 2022. Virgle was born to Homer Sydney Taylor and Bettie Kathrine (Grinder)Taylor on August 19,1932, in Huntsville, Arkansas. He attended school in both Comanche and Ponca City, Oklahoma. He Began his career with the Ponca City Fire Department in 1951. Later in 1952 he took a leave of absence and joined the Army where he served from 1952 to 1954. He was station at Fort Bliss, Texas and Carswell Air Force base in Fort Worth, Texas. He was released to eight years of service in the Army Reserve after attaining the rank of E4 Corporal while on Active Duty. He returned to his position as a fireman with the City of Ponca City and served in numerous positions over his 33-year career, including, 1st Class Fireman, Pipe man, Driver, Captain, his favorite position Fire Marshall and his final position as Assistant Chief.

Dale Alan Oard of Blackwell, Oklahoma, surrounded by his family, passed into His Heavenly House, on November 3, 2022, in the Integris Health Hospital in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 64. Dale was born on October 10, 1958, in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Marilyn McCulley Oard and Billy Joe Oard.

Karen Sue Rhoades

Karen Sue Rhoades, our precious wife, mother, grandmother, and sister joined her parents in heaven on November 4, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Karen was born in Ponca City, OK on May 23, 1952, to Clyde & Freda (Benoit) Hodges. Karen’s early childhood years were spent in Ponca City, OK then the family moved to Fort Morgan, CO. Karen’s father worked in the oilfield and moved the family to Gillett, WY, then they moved to Goodland, KS. At the age of 16, Karen moved back Ponca City with her family. Karen’s sister, Patty introduced her to the love of her life, Jimmy Rhoades in 1969, after Karen caught Jimmy’s eye while he was cruising Grand in his 1969 Chevy Nova. They were married on January 14th, 1970.

A Rosary Ceremony will be held at Trout funeral home on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 6:30 P.M., with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, November, 5, 2022, at 10:00 A.M.
