“When you fly for that many years, undoubtedly you must find yourself gazing into the clouds, longing to return.

And return she did.”

Kathleen Hartley was born in Oldham England, July 6th, 1945 to Alexander and Catherine Goslan. She passed away peacefully Saturday morning, April 1st, 2023, surrounded by family. She was able to finally rejoin her parents, two brothers Alex and Ian and her son, Jed. Kathie is survived by her sister Sandra, husband Doug, son Alex and his wife Kaylee and grandchildren Abbi, Maddy and Max.

Kathie grew up in Chadderton, England where her father was an ambulance driver and her mother worked at the local cotton mill. At 13, her father passed due to illness and her mother moved them all to Scotland to live with their Grandma Rooney. At the age of 19, she then left home venturing to the United States to become a nanny of three children for a New Jersey couple, Dr. Allan and Joan Lans. After her time watching those children grow, she applied to become a flight attendant. She started with Northeast Airlines which Delta eventually acquired. There she met a co-worker, Carol that made the introduction to her future husband.

Kathie married Doug Hartley on August 11, 1978 at the Methodist Church in Newkirk, OK and raised two sons, Alex and Jed. After her sons were born, she found a job at Albright Abstract and Title, where she worked until her retirement in 2005.

She loved being a mother and loved the home her and Doug built for their family. Despite living in some of the largest cities and traveling to all corners of the world, she always felt like this was truly home. She possessed a myriad of talents in everything imaginable; from baking, to all forms of sewing and quilting, to calligraphy and drawing just to name a few. She was absolutely amazing at all things and her creativity knew no bounds. She was instrumental in nurturing the talents of her two sons and anyone else willing to learn. Her work ethic, organization and attention to detail was seen throughout her life. She was truly an exceptional woman and will be dearly missed.

Services will be held at the Methodist Church in Newkirk on Saturday, April 8th at 11am. A private burial will be held at a later date with family.

Her book, “Memories of an Uneventful Life” is available for check out at the Newkirk Library.
