Irene Humphies was born to John and Louise Cronin of Blackwell ,OK on Dec 30 1925,

She attended Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. At NOC she met Gilbert Humphries of Tonkawa and they were married for 58 years until his death in 2004. Irene and Gilbert had three children.

Irene was a talented pianist and organist. She was a member and organist for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell for over 30 years. She also accompanied the “Tonkawa Trio” that consisted of Gloria Langdon, Donna Fath and Imogene Bush. They were always in demand to entertain at many events in the Tonkawa, Blackwell and the Ponca City area.

Over the years she obtained both her pilot’s license and her real estate license where she sold homes in the Tonkawa area for many years.

She was a volunteer for the United Way and Meals on Wheels as well as many other organizations, giving her time and money in service to others.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert, sons Craig and John, brother Jack Cronin of Junction City KS, sister-Mary Meeks of Ponca City, brother Robert Cronin of Blackwell, She is survived by her daughter Beth Scott of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by her wonderful nephews and nieces, Mike Cronin, Jim Cronin of Blackwell, Tim Meeks of El Paso TX, Lou Ann O’Neill of Ponca City, Carolyn Gray of Ponca City, and Jennie Sisney of Newkirk.

We wish to thank the nurses and staff at the Via Christi Nursing Home for their incredible service to Irene.
