He spent his growing up years on the family dairy farm on 80 rd southeast of Ponca City in Osage County. This time was full of learning about dairying, farming, 4H, and how to be a good Christian, neighbor and friend. He along with brothers and sisters were very active in 4-H, and several of them including Ellis were inducted into the Osage County 4-H Hall of Fame where their pictures hung for many years. He earned a trip to the American Royal in Kansas City and to the National 4-H Convention in Chicago. He was an excellent horseman and loved his painted horse, Sparky.

There were many visits with neighbors and extended family, church gatherings, school functions at Braden, and box suppers or pot luck suppers at each of these. He loved to hunt and spent many evenings Coon hunting with their coon dogs and friends. This all before hunting leases. You could with neighbors blessings crawl over fences.

Ellis went to Garfield and Braden grade schools, Ponca City Junior High on East Grand, and Ponca City High School graduating in 1957. He attended Oklahoma State University on a wrestling scholarship for one and ½ years.

He with several buddies decided to enlist in the Army buddy plan. While in the army he earned Good Conduct medal, Sharpshooter Badge, and Marksman Badge. He also was trained in Atomic projectile assembly and ATP code of Conduct Military Justice, and the Geneva Convention. Because of the atomic projectile knowledge he had to have a top secret clearance.

He left the Army in August of 1960 on a hardship case as his father was injured and help was needed on the family dairy. His father, brother, Bob, and Ellis became partners in the dairy. In his partnership time the dairy was upgraded from a stanchion barn to a brand new milking parlor, and a block silo was built. Soil conservation methods, including terraces, put in place in his high school years with terraces to stop erosion, were continually maintained.

In 1961 he met Louise Stubblefield, daughter of Clifford and Vivian Jarrell Stubblefield. They were married May 4, 1962 at the Hartford Ave. Church of Christ in Ponca City, Ok. He later became a member of Louise’s church, Community Christian Church in Ponca City.

They lived on the family dairy till they exited the partnership and purchased their own farm, in 1973, east of the 9 mile road on 80 rd Osage County souteast of Ponca City. They live there for 27 years, raising their 2 boys. They tried to pass down the work ethics, honesty, and friendliness.

In 1969 he went to work at the Ponca City Fire Station where he retired after 20 years at the grade of Captain.

As a couple they loved to go to dances, including Square Dancing, getting together with friends to play cards or games and attend church activities.

In 2001 they sold the farm and moved to Comanche Trace Golf Course, Kerrville Texas. He acquired a job with the golf course first in maintenance then as a golf assistant, helping get the golfers on the golf course and taking care of the carts.

In 2005 they moved again to Sun City Texas, Georgetown, Texas and loved the active life there making some very special friends. Some of who they traveled with for several years.

In 2012 they moved to San Antonio area to be closer to their son and his children. In 2020 they moved again to Sand Springs, Okla. to be closer to their other son and his family.
