Darrell Gene Lampe, of Ponca City, OK, passed away on October 7, 2019, at the age of 75 in Ponca City, OK.

Darrell was born in Howe, OK to William and Wilma (Ford) Lampe on March 5, 1944. Although born in Howe, Darrell grew up in Ponca City and attended Ponca City schools until graduating in 1962. He then continued his education at Oklahoma State Technical school in Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he obtained his certificate in printing/ graphic arts. In December 1965, Darrell was drafted into the Army, and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After serving 18 months in the Army Darrell returned to Oklahoma and later moved to the Wichita, Kansas area where he was able to use his printing/graphic arts certificate as a web pressman at McCormick Armstrong. After 30 years of dedicated service at McCormick, Darrell was able to retire in 2002 and move back to his hometown, Ponca City.

Darrell loved coaching his three sons in baseball; they spent all their summers playing ball and camping with family, when there weren’t games to be played. His sons were the joys and blessings of his life. He spent a lot of time teaching them to play baseball, fishing, golfing and hunting. During his retired years, Darrell loved spending time with his friends playing cards, shooting pool, playing golf, and watching his Sooners. He was an awesome father, grandfather and friend and was loved by many; he will be missed dearly but is in a better place now with no pain.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and companion, Nelda Johnson.

Darrell is survived by his sons, Darrell (Sharon) Lampe of Mulvane, KS, Chad Lampe of Wichita, KS, Jamie Lampe of Ponca City, OK, 10 grandchildren, and his brother Don (Mary) Lampe of Ponca City, OK.

Darrell wishes to spend eternity in his back yard, where he spent a lot of time with friends and family; his ashes will be spread around the large Maple tree. The family will have a celebration of life at Darrell’s residence at a date and time to be determined.

The family of Darrell wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hospice of Northern Oklahoma, Dr. Aaron P. Wilcox, and all family and friends that have supported us through this difficult time. paid obituary
