Danys Kay London Self, a cherished presence in the lives of many, passed away on August 20, 2023, at the age of 83, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on June 23, 1940, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth “Betty” London Sandy and Jack E. London.

Growing up in Dallas, Texas, Danys graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1958. She graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1963 and found camaraderie as a Kappa Alpha Theta sorority member. In 1960, she entered into a lifelong partnership with Jim Self, a union that would span an incredible 63 years. Together, they created a home in Norman, Ponca City, and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Danys embraced a diverse career journey in Ponca City, where she shared her knowledge as a home economist teacher at Ponca City High School, taught English while maintaining the library at Ponca Military Academy; she also co-owned the Apple Cart Tea Room and engaged in real estate through Group One Realty. In 2002, she and her husband and mother moved to Broken Arrow to be nearer to their beloved grandchildren.

Retirement allowed Danys to savor the Tulsa area, surrounded by family and friends. Her passions encompassed quality time spent with loved ones and friends, voyages to new destinations, the art of home decoration, and cheering on the University of Oklahoma sports teams. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ponca City and Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa.

Danys’ journey through life was marked by the profound loss of her son Michael Shawn Self and the departure of her parents, Betty London Sandy and Jack E. London. She leaves a legacy through her devoted husband, Jim Self, her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Kurt Hoffman, and her cherished grandchildren, Payden and Baylie Hoffman.

Throughout her life, Danys cultivated enduring friendships that enriched her days. Her absence will be felt deeply by those who were fortunate enough to know her. A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Asbury Church, 6767 S. Mingo Road in Tulsa, OK. The family asks those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating in Danys Self’s name to the American Brain Foundation, https://www.americanbrainfoundation.org.
