Ann Oberschelp Youngquist, 87, joined the Church Triumphant on June 25, 2020.

Born February 18, 1933 to Arthur and Elizabeth Oberschelp, Ann grew up and graduated from high school in Ponca City, Oklahoma before heading off to William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. Upon graduation, she landed a job as an airline stewardess and moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she met her life partner Robert Youngquist.

The two were married on June 8, 1955 at Ann’s home congregation of First Presbyterian Church in Ponca City before settling into their first home in Denver, Colorado. Ann and Bob had three children, and the close-knit family had numerous moving adventures following job opportunities as Bob pursued a career in computer programming. From Kansas to Michigan, back to Oklahoma, and then to Florida - Ann turned each move into an opportunity to expand her own professional resume.

She taught manners, modeling and fashion sense to pre-teens in Wichita, Kansas as the director of the Montgomery Ward “Wendy Ward” program. She was the product manager for Ambassador Cards serving stores throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. She was the manager of Mountain View Mall in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and executive assistant to the Director of International Trade for the Florida Department of Commerce. And amidst a lifetime of learning and mastering new skills in her professional adventures - she was the mom who was unfailingly present in her children’s lives. She was the den mother, camp counselor, band parents president, field trip chaperone, the church youth group leader. She was the mother who was known and loved by all of her children’s friends. She was the grandmother whose idea of a great retirement was providing daycare for her grandson. And at every stop along the way of her adventurous life, she was a faithful congregant and church choir member.

After losing her husband of 57 years to cancer in 2012, Ann stayed on in Tallahassee near her daughter and family. She maintained her own apartment and remained an active member of Grace Lutheran Church there until December, 2018 when she moved to Loganville, Georgia to be close to her two sons and their families. Her ready smile, youthful exuberance and unflagging optimism despite significant physical adversities in her final years are her lasting legacies.

Ann is survived by her three children and their loving spouses: Mike and Vicki Youngquist and Steve and Lisa Youngquist of Loganville, GA, daughter Lisa Hall and her husband Tom of Babcock Ranch, FL; granddaughter Nikki Mathis and her husband James of Loganville, GA; grandsons Ben Youngquist of Atlanta, Matthew Hall of Norman, OK, and Jonathan Youngquist of Loganville, GA; and great grandchildren Caleb and Hannah Grace Mathis of Loganville, GA.

Ann’s family is celebrating her life doing what she loved best - gathering together at home (and via Zoom) with friends and relatives to share the joyous memories of a life well lived.
