This week’s cat of the week is Tommy. Tommy is a 5 year old Domestic Short hair, that is currently at Northern Oklahoma Humane Society waiting for his forever home. He is new to the shelter and was just surrendered on Feb. 2. When you first meet Tommy, he can be quite shy. When pets are surrendered, they can often get anxious or depressed, especially since they are not only adjusting to being without their family, but also a completely new environment. Whether it is because he is still adjusting to being at the humane society, or this is just his normal personality, Tommy is reserved in the beginning. That being said, he does not take long to come out of his shell. Once he does, you are guaranteed to fall in love with him. Tommy is so incredibly affectionate and loving. He enjoys being pet and loved on, and is also a big fan of treats. These things are the way to Tommy’s heart. Tommy is looking for a second chance family that will love him for the rest of his days.

The Festival of Angels is a staple in the winter time in Ponca City and has been since 1996. Many citizens of Ponca City and the surrounding communities share a deeprooted love for the festival. What most don’t realize is the work and energy it takes to continue to offer this to the community.

Shannon Leatherman, lifelong Kay County resident, has filed to run for District 3 of the Kay County Board of Commissioners. He graduated from Braman High School and attended Northern Oklahoma College.

The 36th Ponca City Leadership Class held their session on education on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Leadership meets for 11 sessions during the course of their year with these sessions focusing on various topics including history, civic and human resources, industry, arts and culture, county government, education, different levels of government, education, and economic development. The group learns several important skills to meet Leadership’s objective to develop a group of well-informed leaders who plan to be active participants in the growth of the community.
