THE 101 Wild West Rodeo celebrated their 64th Annual rodeo by making this year’s festivities bigger and better than before. The Ponca City Public Schools have shared the schedules for the elementary “Meet the Teacher and Move-In” nights for the 2023-2024 school year at all elementary school sites including Washington Pre-K Center.
Dearing House Child Advocacy Center will be holding their annual “Fish Fry for the Small Fry” event on Friday, June 16 at Standing Bear Park from 6 pm until food runs out. Fish Fry for the Small Fry began in the summer of 2014 when Melody Young at UnWined asked to host an event for Dearing House as a way to bring activity downtown on Friday nights.
On Sat., June 10, Ponca City Noon Lions Club partnered with the Ponca City Fire Fighters Union for a Sock Hop Party. The Ponca City Parks and Recreation department allowed them to use the Unity Gym for the festivities and local businesses Ponca City Discount Foods, Farha, Was-Mart, and both Homeland locations donated food for the cause.
I’ve covered Transformers extensively on this column, and a cursory glance at those particular articles would tell anyone that I have a jaded cynicism when it comes to the live action films. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the first one of theses films I’ve watched since 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
Rise Up Church has had a big impact in Newkirk and Kay County in recent months, reaching out to the community with the message of the gospel. They have been seen outside the church and in the community, including at the Kay County Amphitheater, and this Sunday evening, June 11 the church’s praise and worship band will have a night of worship at the Amphitheater itself, and everyone is invited to participate.
