VETERANS DAY HAM & BEANS DINNER Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary #1201 will host the annual Ham & Beans Dinner on November 11, 2023 at the First Christian Church in Newkirk at 9th and Walnut from 11 am to 1 pm. To-go orders can be picked up at the west door. Door prizes will be given away during the meal. Poppies will be handed out with poppy donations going to area veterans in need and families. All veterans and families and the public is invited to help us honor our veterans.

This article will be published on November 11th. We are remembering all our veterans who have served our country since World War 1. Until recently, the Pastor was the only person on the church roll that served in the military. I will be checking again this coming Sunday to see if anyone present will have served in military service. If so, they will be honored. It had the privilege of serving in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968. I enjoyed those years of service and appreciate the benefits that I am still enjoying due to my service through the Veterans Administration. We not only had the honor of serving our country in military service, but everyone has the honor of serving as representatives of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote to his friends in Corinth informing them of their responsibility to be representatives or ambassadors for Christ. See 2 Corinthians 5:20, “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” When you understand how much Jesus gave so that you may have spiritual freedom, you have an obligation to show your family, friends, and others that you meet that the love of Jesus Christ is very special in your life. That love was so great that it meant that Jesus was willing to die on Calvary’s cross for your sin. Thank you, God, for loving your creation so much that you sent Jesus to sacrifice his precious blood for the sin in their lives. As a result, when forgiveness of sin is given as recipients you have the right to eternal life with the Father one glorious day. Be sure to spend time in worship soon.
