April is National Volunteer Month – a month dedicated to recognizing the importance of volunteering and honoring the significant contributions volunteers make by generously donating their time and talents to worthy causes. Hospice of North Central Oklahoma is a Non-profit organization and directly benefits from the contribution of time and talents volunteers contribute to their organization.

Volunteers were honored at a luncheon on Friday, April 30, 2021. Lunch was served to the volunteers by Mary Meyers, Chief Business Officer, Steve Barr, Director of DME & Facilities, and Julie Kanelakos, Human Resources Director.

Judy Bales, Director of Office Management & Volunteer Coordinator and Wendy Stobbe, Chief Executive Officer spoke to the group about Hospice of NCO commitment and appreciation for the vol unteers. This last year with issues of the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers continued to help hospice from their homes by sending “Thinking of you” cards to patients and sewing Memory Bears for families. Also volunteers helped to complete bulk mailings for the Annual Appeal and Tree of Life fundraisers. Volunteer in-person services were suspended. Recently, some of the guidelines have been adjusted and they have been able to begin assigning tasks to the volunteers.

The group played Bingo with Wendy Stobbe calling numbers and Judy Bales distributing the prizes to the winners.

“We are very thankful for our volunteers giving their precious time to support our organization!” said Judy Bales “Our new online training makes it very easy to become a volunteer.”
