Superintendent Shelley Arrott posted a video on Wednesday Oct. 21 to the school’s YouTube page.

She provided tips for using the Ponca City Virtual Academy (PCVA) as well as detailing information on Ponca City Public Schools working with the Poncan Nation and the Project Eagle group to make the virtual academy successful for students, especially those living in White Eagle or who are Poncan.

Arrott recommends that children need to log in every day to the virtual academy and typically children spend three to five hours online. If students fail to log on, they could be counted absent or put on probation.

Chromebooks and hot spots have been provided, however, if students in White Eagle are experiencing problems with wi-fi, Arrott recommends going to the cultural center where there is strong wi-fi and employees there everyday.

It is also good for students to establish a routine every day and spend time on the computer. Teachers monitoring both Accelerate and Edgenuity programs can help to set up a schedule.

Students need to be sure to watch any curriculum content as the videos contain instructions on assignments.

Certified teachers also monitor the success of PCVA and are glad to establish tutoring sessions with students via Zoom. Alternatively, students can come in to 111 W. Grand to meet personally with a teacher. Students should stay on

Students need to be sure to upload completed assignments through the program or email them to the teacher. PCVA students who live at White Eagle may have unit tests administered at the cultural center, while students that don’t live in White Eagle will need to come into 111 W. Grand.

It is important to keep contact information up to date on the Parent Portal as teachers send emails and phone calls with progress information through either Accelerate or Edgenuity.

Free breakfast and lunches are offered to students at White Eagle with Chris Littlecook bringing meals at 11 a.m.

Arrott also took the opportunity to talk about the collaboration with the Ponca Tribe and how it ensures students at White Eagle have a successful experience with PCVA.

“It’s been great to work with Poncan Nation to make sure joint students have an opportunity for success,” said Arrott.
