New Life Trails Ministries was honored by Cherokee Strip Federal Credit Union, who applied for a $500 grant on behalf of the non-profit organization.

This money was from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, KS and the giveaway campaign was called #500forgood. Out of hundreds of applicants across the state of Oklahoma, New Life Trails were one of the two organizations that were chosen.

“They did all the research and grant writing on their own and I was so humbled. One of the ladies shared how the impact of the animals taken to a nursing home that her grandmother was in had meant so much to their family,” said Renee Spears, Founder of New Life Trails.

“They believe in the outreach of New Life Trails and wanted to support us. We shared that we would be using the money to print intervention curriculum for a summer program for Pre-K and Kindergarten students,” added Spears.

New Life Trails Ministries is a local non-profit organization that strives to use animals to reach individuals to help them academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

They also recently took baby lambs to Ponca Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and this was set up by Social Services Assistant, Ginny Ball. According to Ponca Nursing Home staff and New Life Trails Ministries, this idea was a complete success and the residents enjoyed seeing the animals.

New Life Trails volunteers did not go into the nursing home, but staff members of Ponca Nursing Home pushed the baby lambs inside a grocery cart and made their rounds visiting with the residents. With Covid-19 still restricting any visitors inside the facility, the animals helped to cheer up the residents at Ponca Nursing Home and Rehab Center.

New Life Trails is offering this service to any nursing home in the area once a month with different baby animals. They have baby rabbits coming, a baby mini horse, baby chicks, ducks, turkeys and a baby calf on it’s way as well. Nursing homes who are interested in this service may contact New Life Trails Ministries at 580-382-1259 or 580-763-7349 or may visit their website at Newlifetrails.com.
