Kay County has reported its 10th death due to COVID-19, according to information released on Tuesday from the Oklahoma State Department of Education. The death was a female in the age 65 or over category.

Ten additional cases were reported by the state health department for Kay County, bringing the total positive cases in the county to 198. Of that number, 146 have recovered.

Ponca City has 169 of those cases and 127 recoveries. Ponca City also has 8 of the 10 confirmed deaths. Elsewhere across the state, Oklahoma had another 1,089 positive cases reported, bringing the number of confirmed positive cases to 33,775.

Twelve additional deaths were reported in the state, bringing the statewide death toll to 509.

An additional 555,351 Oklahomans have tested negative for the virus. There are currently 596 hospitalizations in the state and 2,987 total cumulative hospitalizations.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt returned to his office this week after spending two weeks in isolation after he tested positive for the virus.

“Everyone I was in contact with continues to test negative for COVID-19 and no one has developed symptoms,” said Stitt. Stitt encouraged people to regularly wash their hands, socially distance and wear masks when social distancing isn’t possible. Stitt had attended President Donald Trump’s rally in Tulsa last month, which health experts have said likely contributed to a surge in coronavirus cases there.

The increase is a combination of both community spread of the virus and the health department clearing a data entry backlog, said agency spokesman Rob Crissinger.
