RECPLEX NEWS MOVIES ON THE LAWN

• This FREE event is back at the RecPlex lawn! Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray. Youth and teens under the age of 14 are asked to have adult supervision. Please practice proper social distancing. The lawn opens at 8:00 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk.

KIDS NIGHT OUT

• Sign up your kids for this 5-hour fun-filled Kids Night Out! Your child will have a great time at the RecPlex while you go out to dinner, enjoy a date night or just take advantage of the quiet in your home. The RecPlex will provide dinner, multiple crafts, a popcorn bar, snacks and a movie.

• Saturday, June 19, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with check-in starting at 5:00 p.m.

• For ages 6 weeks to 12 years. The cost is $35.00 for the first child, and $10.00 per sibling.

ADULT TENNIS LESSONS

• These 2-hour lessons are for adults 18 and older at the Wally Smith Tennis Center.

• Lessons are on Tuesdays, June 8, 22, 29 and July 6, 13, 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

• The cost is $15.00 per lesson.

KAYAK LESSONS

• Do you want to learn the fundamentals of kayaking? These beginner lessons will teach you important safety practices, identify the different types of equipment, the basic strokes and techniques that are fundamental to all types of kayaking.

• Lesson dates are on Mondays, June 14, June 28 and July 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Kayak Barn at Lake Ponca.

• For ages 13 and up. The cost is $25.00 per lesson.

KAYAK SUNRISE TOURS

• Take a tour of beautiful Lake Ponca at sunrise. The kayak and the life jacket will be provided, just bring something to drink and your love of the outdoors!

• Tour dates are on Thursdays, June 17 thru July 22, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at the Kayak Barn at Lake Ponca.

• For ages 18 and up. The cost is $30.00 per tour date. Ages 50 and older are FREE!

YOUTH BASKETBALL CAMP

• Coaches and players from the high school will put campers through a series of drills and competitions to improve their fundamental skills. Registrants will receive a free t-shirt.

• The camp is Monday thru Wednesday, June 28-30 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the RecPlex.

• For 3rd thru 7th grade age participants. The cost is $55.00 per participant.

YOUTH TENNIS CAMP

• These 4-day summer camps are throughout June and July for ages 5-17. Each session will put campers through a series of drills and competitions to help improve their fundamental skills. Registrants can sign up for multiple session for additional training. Registrants will receive a free t-shirt.

FIREWORKS SHOW CELEBRATION AT WENTZ

• Watch the Annual Ponca City Independence Day Fireworks Show at Wentz Pool! There will be hotdogs and hamburgers for sale, swimming, and a beautiful view of the fireworks show. There will only be 150 tickets available for the event, so don’t miss out! Grills and coolers are allowed.

• The fun begins on Sunday, July 4th at 6:30 p.m., the pool will close at 9:00 p.m., and the fireworks show starts at 9:50 p.m.

• For all ages. The cost is $15.00 per person.

DOG OBEDIENCE CLASS

• Whether you have a new dog or a dog who could use a brush-up on manners, this once-weekly basic dog obedience class is a great way to build a foundation of skills that will benefit you and your dog. This class is for dogs 12 weeks or older.

• Classes are every Saturday, July 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 2:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m. at Unity Gym.

• For ages 8 and up. Attendees 13 years and younger require an adult present. The cost for the 4-week class is $100.00.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS

• Youth swim classes are for students 3-13 years and will include 8 30-minute classes of group instruction (Monday thru Thursday) with a ratio of no more than 1 instructor to 5 students.

• The cost is $55.00 per student, per session.

• TADPOLE – WORKING ON WATER ADJUSTMENT – Child has little or no water experience.

• FROG – WORKING ON MOBILITY AND BEGINNING ENTRANCE – Glide unassisted on their front and back, travel 15 feet using beginning paddling, demonstrate a streamline kick on their front and back, float unassisted on their front and back for 10 seconds.

• TURTLE – WORKING ON BODY POSITION – Go underwater willingly with no hesitation, float assisted on front and back, follow directions, jump in – go underwater – and be caught, demonstrate comfort in the entire pool environment.

RECPLEX YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Youth sports or youth programs are eligible for youth scholarships at the RecPlex. No funds will go to monthly memberships for youth or adults. The participant shall pay $15.00 for any youth sport or program if appropriate Proof of Need has be presented and funds are available.

Applicants are required to provide in person the Proof of Need listed below to the Parks and Recreation office at the RecPlex between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and must talk with the Secretary or the Membership Specialist.

Eligibility Criteria, Parent/ Guardian of youth participant must:

Request scholarship prior to registration deadline

Provide Proof of Need from one of the following:

o Involvement in Free or Reduced Lunch Program

o Involvement in the Temporary Assistants for Needy Families Program from Oklahoma Department of Human Services

o Involvement in a group home subsequent to the minor being judicially place in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services

AMBUC POOL

Open Swim is held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The pool is closed on Wednesday for maintenance.

Open Swim Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children, age 12 and under.

All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Senior/Adult Lap Swim is held from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Senior/Adult Lap Swim Admission is $1.00 for adults.

WENTZ POOL

Open Swim is held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The pool is closed on Monday for maintenance.

Admission is $2.00 for adults. Admission is $1.00 for children, age 12 and under.

All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Wentz Pool will be closed to the public June 14-18, 2021.

Individuals may purchase pool passes for AMBUC Pool and Wentz Pool from the Ponca City RecPlex. Pool Passes are 25 swims for $20.00.

Active RecPlex memberships allows access to both Wentz and AMBUC Pool.

KCARC FIELD DAY

The Kay County Amateur Radio Club (KCARC) will be holding our annual Field Day Event on June 26th starting about 1 PM at the Ambucs Motocross Track on West Prospect. Everyone who is interested in Amateur Radio (no licensed required) is welcome to attend. We’ll have several stations setup and on the air.
