PRESS RELEASE

Late last year the Kay County Walk of Warriors project was revealed which will honor all who have served this great nation in the Armed Forces. The Newkirk American Legion Auxiliary and the City of Newkirk are partnering to provide the Kay County Walk of Warriors as part of the Newkirk Pathway. Newkirk’s Junior American Legion Auxiliary members Brylen Liberton and Hannah Cross have been working on the project since the middle of October and are excited about the progress.

A generous donation by the Kay County War Memorial Committee will provide a 16” by 88” entrance to the Walk of Warriors. A total of 500 engraved pavers will be installed in the walk. Additionally, 100 blank pavers will be installed for future use. Ponca City, Blackwell and Arkansas City VFW and VFW Auxiliaries have supported this project from the beginning and each have a paver dedicated to their post. Newkirk, Arkansas City, Braman and 8th District American

Legion and American Legion Auxiliaries have also provided an abundance of assistance and will have pavers dedicated to their posts as well.

Last week the Kay County Commissioners approved the final placement of the pavers in the sidewalk leading to the Kay County War Memorial. Both Rick Scott Construction and Kyler Construction Group are teaming up to donate labor and materials to install of the Kay County Walk of Warriors. Installation is on track for fall of 2021.
