Ponca City has been selected to be the host of a motocross event, which will take place June 12-14 on the AMBUCS track at the Jack Blevins Motocross Park on West Prospect.

The event will be a South Central Region qualifier for the prestigious Loretta Lynn Amateur Championships held annually in August in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

According to Harold Martin of the MPG Creative Group which is promoting the event, there will be 400 competitors in the June Ponca City qualifier. It is estimated the races will bring about 8,000 persons to the motocross park.

“This is a smaller event than the one Ponca City hosts in October,” Martin said. “But it is an honor to be selected as a host for a Loretta Lynn qualifier. There are only certain tracks that are chosen for a chance to host a qualifier. Ponca City has been a special place for Motocross. The AMBUCS and especially Bill Stuever and Evan Stuever have been wonderful to work with.”

Ponca City has been the host for the national championship Motoplayground race in October for the past few years. At that event there are usually more than 2,000 participants.

This year’s Motoplayground event is scheduled for Oct. 15-18 at the AMBUCS track.

For the Loretta Lynn regional qualifier, Thursday, June 11 has been set as the date for move-in. June 12 is for practice and registration and racing will be conducted on June 13 and 14. Racing will be open to the public Martin said.
