Located at 300 N. 5th, Chiropractic Associates doctors Don Potter and Scott Kirkpatrick have a total together of 60+ years serving Ponca City.

Dr. Potter was a teacher for the Wagoner, OK school system for three years and also served as an assistant high school coach for football, basketball and track. The team doctor was a chiropractor and because of him, Dr. Potter decide to change careers and attend Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.

Dr. Potter’s proficiency in adjusting patients made him one of the “Gold Coat” doctors who monitored third year chiropractic students at the Palmer College Clinic.

“First of all it’s helping, you don’t get anybody in the door that isn’t hurting,” said Dr. Potter describing what he loves about the job. “Knowing that you can help a majority of them and know that relief is on the way is pretty exciting.”

Dr. Potter and his wife May Anne, along with Dr. Potter’s parents visited a total of 77 towns and cities before deciding to live in Ponca City to set up his chiropractic practice. Potter Chiropractic was opened on Nov. 16, 1981 in a building he shared with Dr. Jerry Trotter, an optometrist and Dr. William Ellifrit, a family practice physician. The building in the current location of 300 N. 5th street was purchased in 1991.

Dr. Potter was Dr. Scott Kirkpatrick’s chiropractor when he was in junior high. Dr. Kirkpatrick attended Parker College of Chiropractic. Dr. Potter and his wife Mary Anne for several years were team teachers at Parker College of Chiropractic.

In December 2009, Dr. Potter sold his practice to Dr. Kirkpatrick. The practice was renamed Chiropractic Associates. Dr. Potter intended to stay on for about three years, but is currently in his 12th year of working together with Dr. Kirkpatrick as a chiropractic team.

“It’s been fantastic,” said Dr. Kirkpatrick. “We’ve really enjoyed it and hope to continue for many more years.”

Both doctors have patients that have moved out of Ponca City, but continue to travel back to Ponca City to receive chiropractic care. They even have truck drivers who visit regularly for chiropractic adjustments while on the road.

“It’s nice to be able to have a lot of established patients over the years that we see fairly regularly. It’s rewarding to be able to see how well they do,” said Dr. Kirkpatrick. “What we do is something that is very effective and helps to alleviate problems. We like the philosophy of natural healing and are fortunate to make a difference.”
