The Board of County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 14th at 9 a.m. at the Kay County Courthouse.

Items discussed on the agenda included members of the OSU Extension Office giving updates on programming, events and activities from the month of August 2020.

The Master Gardener Meeting was held at LA Cann Gardens to create an outside atmosphere during this time of Covid-19 and 14 people participated. Master Gardener Volunteer Training is held on Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room D-101 at the Pioneer Technology Center and the cost is $100 per participant. This is a once a week Gardening Training Course.

Another discussion at the meeting was a statement from County Commissioner, Jack Godberson, pertaining to the Duke Energy Frontier II Project that is ongoing just outside of Newkirk.

“There are 74 turbines involved, 26 turbines have been completed and 8 have been completed involving those that were downsized as to the locations of the turbines.” said Godberson.

“Covid-19 has slowed these projects down somewhat and the blades are being shipped from Germany and Mexico and then sent from the Houston site. This takes 2-3 days to arrive from Houston and the blades are the biggest hold up, but we are still moving forward with this project.” added County Commissioner Jack Godberson.

All other items on the agenda were approved. The BOCC meetings are held each Monday at 9 a.m. at the Kay County Courthouse in Newkirk, OK. The general public is invited to attend any and all meetings and social distancing and masks are also encouraged.
