Wild Versus Farmed

Body
Most of us know that fish and seafood need to be part of our menus -- at least twice a week. That’s because eating fish and seafood helps our brain and our heart. Salmon, tuna and mackerel are particularly high in omega-3 fatty acids, the “good” fats we should all try to consume more often. Those are the fats that are heart-healthy and can support our immune health.

Many autoimmune disease patients struggle with diagnosis, costs, inattentive care

Body
After years of debilitating bouts of fatigue, Beth VanOrden finally thought she had an answer to her problems in 2016 when she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disorder. For her and millions of other Americans, that’s the most common cause of hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck, doesn’t produce enough of the hormones needed for the body to regulate metabolism.

Removing the Excuses

Body
Sometimes it’s the smallest things that can help us reach our goals. Take breakfast, for example. If you struggle with making a quick, healthy breakfast, you may need to purchase a small skillet (for one or two, depending on your family size) to make a quick egg and veggie omelet or scramble in the morning. If you prefer a smoothie in the morning, finding a place for your blender on the counter may be the solution for daily making a milk or yogurtbased healthy smoothie (adding fruits and veggies) for a quick grab-and-go, proteinrich breakfast.

Adoptable Pets

Body
This week’s cat of the week is the beautiful Coral. Coral is a 2 year old Tortoiseshell, more commonly known as Tortie, colored domestic shorthair that has been with the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society since August. During that time, it has been easy for the workers, volunteers, and anyone else who has spent time in the facility to fall in love with her. Unlike many torties, Coral is an absolute sweetheart and is known for her sociability towards humans. Many believe that the tortoiseshell coloring is linked to certain personality traits, which studies have shown to be true. In these studies, it has been shown that tortoiseshell cats are more likely to be independent and feisty than others. That being said, Coral has apparently never learned of this expected behavior, because she doesn’t seem to have a feisty bone in her body. Coral loves people and has never met a stranger. While she couldn’t find a home for thanksgiving, she is hoping to find a family to call her own for the holidays.
