Ponca City Astronomy is an amateur astronomy group that enjoys viewing the planets and other objects in the universe through fairly powerful amateur telescopes. Sharing these views with the public is one of

Sharing these views with the public is one of their objectives. They hold monthly events at both the Ponca City RecPlex as well as Lake Ponca Campgrounds on evenings close to the First Quarter Moon when the details of the mountains and craters of the moon are more obvious.

The planets Mars, Jupiter and Saturn can be seen even in the light polluted parking lots in the city. It is a delight to hear people marvel when seeing the rings of Saturn for the first time and seeing Jupiter and it’s four Galilean moons as well as cloud bands around the planet. Weather permitting, these events will be held on November 20th at the RecPlex and the 21st at Lake Ponca and again December 18th at the RecPlex and December 19th at Lake Ponca. The events are open to the public and free.
