Born five years apart, Tonkawa siblings Ciara and Brody have taken their sibling bond to another level by creating a show stopping band, entitled Five Year Gap. While they speak often on how they were always very close, but in adulthood, they have become the best of friends. In 2021, after living together and making music during the pandemic, brother and sister duo Ciara and Brody decided to create their band and the world couldn’t be more lucky for it.

“Growing up, Ciara was always singing and entertaining, and though Brody didn’t start getting into music until middle school, he was more of an entertainer than he thought, constantly cracking jokes and making people laugh,” says their website, fygband. com.

Whether it be the close sibling bond or the friendship they have grown into, something makes their performance and they themselves so in sync. Experiencing their shows is truly a gift because of both their insane talent and their eye-catching performances. When going to one of their shows, you can expect to hear a wide variety of covers, as well as their own songs.

They share many of the same favorite bands, but they also have their own styles as well. Because of that mix of styles, this band is unlike any you have ever heard before. They take the influences from their favorite bands and songs, both separately and together, to create a sound that is uniquely them.

As an alternative rock duo, they use a variety of acoustic guitar licks, live drums, synth leads, and excellent song writing to create their own self-titled EP. Throughout each of the six songs on the album, the duo tells their story in a nostalgic and home-town feeling.

“Each of the six songs tells their story of what growing up in small-town USA was like and how they share a lot of the same insecurities and struggles such as anxiety and depression as well as a lot of the same interests including DND and Lord of The Rings.”

Take their song “Chalk Houses” as an example, packed into the three and a half minutes, Ciara and Brody reminisce about the easier times as children. This song talks about the lost friendship between two girls as they grew up. This single’s music video was filmed in their hometown of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, which can be seen throughout the entirety of the music video. Another great example is their song “Karate,” where they speak on their childhood sibling bond and how much they never want to grow up. This song was also filmed in Tonkawa at The Hub Entertainment Center.

“Music has been an outlet for Brody and Ciara to share their struggles and their story with others, and ultimately, they want their music to bring people hope and comfort during these increasingly trying times. They have a heart for young people, as they remember what middle school and high school was like, and it’s important to them that the give the youth of today music and art that helps them feel more loved and less alone.”

As of now, Ciara and Brody are working on their second project, which is set to release in the fall of this year. Until then, you can support them by streaming their album, following their social medias, and attending their live concerts throughout the state. For July they have four shows scheduled. On Sat., July 1 they will be performing at the Hideaway Marina in Ponca City; Margaritaville, Riverspirit Casino in Tulsa on Fri., July 14; the Monika House with Rob on Sat., July 22 in Wichita; and at The Hub in Tonkawa on Thursday and Friday July 27 and 28.
