Northern Oklahoma College Men’s Student Assistant Basketball Coach Christian Manuel Tarango was awarded the Jared Weiberg Endowed Memorial Scholarship Monday night before the NOC men faced Redlands Community College.

Tarango is a Business Administration major from Marshall, Oklahoma.

The Jared Weiberg Endowed Scholarship is presented to a walk-on player or student assistant manager of the Maverick team whose qualities include a strong work ethic, loyalty, unselfishness, and a passion for basketball. Tarango will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Presenting the scholarship award certificate were NOC President Dr. Clark Harris, Mick and Vina Weiberg, parents of the late Jared Weiberg. Mick Weiberg coached the Mavs from 1987-2006. Tarango was joined by family members Raquel and Miguel Tarango. Assisting with the presentation were men’s coach Patrick Nee, Athletic Director Alan Foster, and Candy Oller, Director of Development and Donor Relations.

Tarango’s name will be inscribed on the Jared Weiberg Memorial Plaque which is on display in the Vineyard Library/Administration Building.
