ARKANSAS CITY — The Creative Writing program at Cowley College, along with the creative writing club Creative Claws hosted the first Writers’ Corner of the year on Tuesday, October 30. Over 50 students and guests turned out to support the writers. Ten writers presented 26 original works, including poetry and short fiction and non-fiction, during the evening.
“As usual, I was very proud of the students and their bravery in presenting their works. It’s very personal to get up in front of a group and do this,” Marlys Cervantes, director of the Creative Writing Program and Humanities and Communication department chair said. “They did a beautiful job.”
The group presenting works included sophomores Connor Baxter, Hannah Dougherty, and Hannah Lyles; freshmen and first-time presenters Riley Gatton, Payton Milner, Journey Schule, and Rachel Shriner; and alumni of the program Kaitlyn Cathey and Grace Nightingale; as well as Cervantes.
High school students are encouraged to register for Cowley College’s Arts & Humanities Day on November 7. To find out more about programs at Cowley College visit www.cowley.edu.
