Tom Holliday, 89, died Feb. 14, 2019 in Owasso. He was born on Dec. 25, 1929, at Avant to Almeda Lucille and Thomas Elige Stephens. He was born on Christmas Day and died on Valentine’s Day as his name was Holliday.
He moved to Ponca City with his mother at age five and attended Ponca City Public Schools, graduating in 1949.
Upon graduation he was named All-State basketball player and All-State track and field. He was also a four-year letterman on the Tulsa University Hurricane basketball team.
After graduation from college he served two years in the U.S. Army.
Tom and Twanda Holliday were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Ponca City on Aug. 28, 1952. From this union two daughters were born. Survivors include Sholly and Dennis Campbell, children McCoy, McCain and McCallen Campbell; Christie Hill and children Chelsey and Cassidy, all of Owasso, six great-grandchildren and his wife of 66 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
He was a former member of the Ponca City Board of Education and was a 37-year employee of Nickles Machine Corp. and a nine-year employee of Snyder Electric.
Cremation has been arranged. No funeral services are planned. He told his beloved “Nickles” coffee group at Braums that he would have no funeral but he hoped they would send up a prayer for him.
