Stephen Ray Payne passed away on Feb. 14, 2019 in Ponca City. He was 65. He was born in Ponca City on Aug. 21, 1953 to Geneva Elizabeth Gillespie-Payne and Kenneth Charles Payne. “Steve” attended Lincoln School, West Junior High, El Dorado Schools, and Ponca City Senior High School. Steve helped with the construction of Kaw Dam and was a successful agent for Farmers Insurance.
He married Joanna Payne, of Ponca City, and had two sons, Nicholas and Adam. Later, he marred Linda Davis of Ponca City. A longtime Ponca City resident, Steve went on to do construction and concrete. He was very passionate about his projects and was noted for his outstanding concrete abilities. Many of his unique projects can still be observed around Ponca City, today.
Steve always had a joke for you and never met a stranger. He enjoyed “oldies” music, hamburgers, Western Movies, muscle cars (Annual Ponca City Draggin’ Grand Events), and seeing movies at the theater(s) every weekend with lots of popcorn.
He has two brothers, Charles of Woodlands-TX, and Troy, of Seattle, WA. Steve leaves behind brothers Charles and Troy; sons Nicholas and Adam; half-siblings Delbert Staton and Paula Luis; grand children Kayleigh, Nixon, and Aftyn. Steve is preceded, in death, by his Geneva Payne (Staton), Aunt Gertrude Harlan, Clara Payne, and Kenneth Payne.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the PC Life Center (1300 W. Grand Avenue) in Ponca City, OK. Family, friends, and acquaintances are invited to share and/or hear memories of Steve.
