ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Shirley Jean Hamrick, 77, of Arkansas City, Kan., passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, surrounded by her family at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kan. A funeral has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at First Assembly of God Church in Arkansas City. James Newman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven-Sunset Memorial Park, Ponca City.

Shirley was born July 19, 1940, the daughter of Guy W. and Eva K. Bailey Chapman in Stuart, Okla. She was reared and educated in Ponca City and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1958. After high school she attended and graduated from cosmetology school.

She married Gerald Hamrick in Pawnee. The couple made their home in Ponca City for a short time before moving to Arkansas City. She was the owner/operator of the Tropics Club from 1982 to November of 2014. She also worked at Green Door La Familia for 22 years. She loved to socialize, bartend, cook, waitress, read and shop, mostly on QVC. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald; children, Donna Kunkel and husband Larry, of Arkansas City, Terri Allen and husband Doug, of Stillwater, Sherri Chilson and husband Jimmy, of Lakeland, Fla., Vandy Hamrick and husband JR Voigtlander, of Arkansans City and Flint Hamrick and wife Leslie, of Arkansas City; siblings, Guy Chapman Jr., of Ponca City, Harold Chapman and wife Margaret, of Williams Port, Pa. and Sharon Hastings and husband Jimmy, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Suzanne, Rick, Dwan, Nick, Ryan, Damian, Jacob, Kayson, Andrea and Jay; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Rhett Kunkel and great-grandson, Champ Walker.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shirley Hamrick Memorial Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
