Ralph William “R. W.” Davenport, longtime Newkirk resident, died Wednesday night, Nov. 7, 2018 in the Ponca City Nursing & Rehabilitation
Center. He was 88.
Born April 23, 1930, R. W. grew up in Wisconsin and Illinois before coming to the Kay County area. On March 23, 1973 he and Nancy Jane Goodno White were married in Newkirk where they have since made their home.
R. W.’s work history includes employment with Keebler, working for Marlin Glass as a sales representative and accountant, and employment as manager at Jackson Clip for Bill Glass in Mazie, Okla.
A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Newkirk and a member of Thrivent through the church, R. W., a navy veteran, was also a member of the VFW.
He enjoyed camping, traveling, and working in the yard. His greatest pleasures were his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
R. W. is survived by Nancy, his wife of 45 years; their children, Freddy Gene White, of Dallas; Terry and Debra Marie Jarboe; and Allen Dale White, all of Newkirk; two grandsons, Macom Alan and Holly Cline, of Newkirk; and Michael Brian and Monique White, of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Sydney Pitts, Jett Cline, Acie Cline, Aryiana White, Micah White, Max White and Mili White.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nine siblings; and a great-grandson, Martin Bradley White.
At Mr. Davenport’s request, cremation has been effected. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 in St. John’s Lutheran
Church, Newkirk with Pastor Mark Mozeik officiating. Interment will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
