Lonnie Gean McVay, was born on Aug. 27, 1949, in Ponca City, the son of William A. and Nettie Burns McVay. He passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 68.
Lonnie was saved at the age of 29. He worked as a coast to coast truck driver, was a certified diesel mechanic and a licensed minister in the Church of God. He married Shelia Bales in 1969 and later married Barbara “Joan” Cruzann. He loved bowling and participated in a league, fishing, noodling and hunting. He had a brilliant mind, was a fixer, a pet lover and a very giving man. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and had traveled coast to coast. He trusted the Lord with everything in him, he loved the Lord, loved his family with all he had and it was evident in his life. He empowered his children to be independent.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Nettie McVay; his siblings, Dencil McVay, Billy McVay and Donnie McVay and ex-wife, Joan McVay.
Survivors include his children, Melissa Bartley and husband Kevin, of Binger, Lonnie McVay, Jr. and wife Sindy, of Ponca City and Jovanna Stocker, of Binger; his grandchildren, Josiah McVay, Ciearra, Joshua and Alonna Bartley, Savannah, Shalia and Alonzo McVay; his siblings, Harvey McVay, of Ponca City, Linda Dainty, of Tulsa, Pat Lacey, of Ragley, La., and Lonnie Jo Fulks and wife Mona, of Ponca City; ex-wife and lifelong friend, Shelia Bales, of Blackwell, as well as many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. at Grace Tabernacle of Praise, 1601 East Coleman Road, on Saturday, Nov. 18. Instead of flowers, please send donation for Harvesters, in his memory, to P.O. Box 68, Binger, OK 73009.
