Lenora Stella Cockrum Price, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Sunday morning, April 15, 2018, at Ponca City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94.
She was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Perry, the daughter of Charles F. and Mary Tontz Cockrum. She graduated from Hayward High School in Noble County where she was the secretary-treasurer of her senior class. She was married to Oakley Kenneth Price in Ponca City on April 15, 1943. The couple were married for 67 years at the time of his passing and Lenora passed on what would have been their 75th anniversary.
She was employed as an Avon representative for many years. She was promoted to district manager and they moved to Arkansas; but, they missed their family and friends, and eventually returned to Ponca City. She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed her family, traveling the country with her husband in their earlier retirement years, enjoying time with her grandchildren, crocheting, baking and cooking. She was active in the PTA when her daughters were in school and very active in the church. She always had a smile on her face and would wave to the other residents of the nursing home. She was a very well loved and respected woman in the community.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl and husband Wesley Carpenter, of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Beverly and husband Richard Montgomery, of Lynden, Wash.; grandson, Andrew Carpenter; granddaughters, Shaina (Randy) Underwood and Shannon (Robert) Underwood; one sister, Grace (Clarence) McKee and two brothers, George Cockrum and James E. Cockrum.
