Kade Michael “Ice” Bergman, Braman resident and Newkirk High School senior, was found Thursday morning, April 19, 2018, following a vehicular accident on Peckham Road just north of Blackwell. He was 17.
The son of Robert Markley Bergman Sr., Kade was born July 10, 2000, in Blackwell. He grew up in Braman and attended his first six years of school there. He then transferred to the Newkirk school system, attending grades seven through his senior year. He was active while in high school, serving on the student council and he was a member of the academic team. He was also a member of Gifted and Talented Students (GATS), Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He was an athletic person and loved sports. He played football for the Tigers and was selected All-District Offensive Lineman and was Newkirk Offensive Lineman of the Year this year. He was a member of the track team and as a member of the wrestling team, he was a state qualifier in wrestling and he was wrestling homecoming king his junior year. He enjoyed being an aide for the kindergarten class and the kids loved him. Although he hadn’t chosen which college he wanted to attend, he had plans to be a history teacher and coach.
He was a member of Braman United Methodist Church. He had many interests, like riding four-wheelers and motorcycles, cherry sours and fishing. He would go swimming any time he could. He was an avid Patriots fan, as well as, the OSU Cowboys. He enjoyed video games and fantasy football. A favorite past time was just hanging out with his friends, especially with his girl friend, LeeAnn Cooper. A kind person, he loved everyone and could make almost anyone smile.
He is survived by his dad, Robert, of Braman; his siblings, Robert Markley Jr. and Wanda Bergman and Laura Jo and Curtis Layton, all of Newkirk, Elizabeth Myler, of Bixby, David and Staci Bergman, of Newkirk, Jerri Bergman, of Pittsburg, Kan., Charles Richmond and his fiancé Lisa Voseff, of Tulsa, Jenna Richmand and fiancé Tyler Spencer, of Braman; his grandparents, Barbara Sandborn, of Braman and Joseph Poole, of Lebanon, Ill.; four nieces, eight nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bob Sandborn and an uncle, John Poole.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, at the Newkirk High School gymnasium with the Rev. Brian Tener, minister of Grace United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City officiating and assisted by the Rev. Susan Rice and the Rev. Trisha Harris, ministers of the Newkirk and Braman United Methodist Churches respectively. Burial will follow in Braman Cemetery. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk, is in charge of arrangements.
Those serving as casket bearers will be, Geoffrey Elliott, Zachary Elliott, Gregory Elliott, Tanner Bergman, Haydon Bergman, Clayton Bergman, Jace Bergman and Christopher Myles. Honorary bearers are, Joe Cook and the Newkirk High School wrestling team.
