NEWKIRK — Newkirk Junior Main Street washed and waxed statues recently.

This is an annual activity for them usually done shortly after school starts. Newkirk Junior Main Street seeks to improve and preserve the future of Newkirk’s downtown heritage while providing fourth through eighth graders a sense of ownership within their community.

Among other endeavors, Newkirk Junior Main Street encourages each student to learn about Newkirk’s history and businesses, develop pride in our community, become a better leader and a respectful volunteer, and be a good representative of Newkirk, Newkirk Main Street and Newkirk Junior Main Street. Newkirk Junior Main Street meets every Tuesday during the school year from 3:30-5 p.m.
