Joyce Yvonne Burgess Castillo, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017. She was a patient at OU Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was 82 years old. She was born on Sept. 15, 1935, the daughter of Mark Anthony Burgess Sr. and Iola Plumley Burgess in Pawnee. She attendee Red Rock schools.
Throughout her lifetime, she lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Arizona. She was a member of the Otoe Baptist Church of Red Rock. She enjoyed reading, dancing, sewing and especially playing bingo. She was very fond of pictures and her family. She worked as a boiler maker in the construction industry which included helping build the OG&E plant in Red Rock.
She is survived by her children, Carla Leftwhich, Tony True, Donita Cheshire and Carl Meredith; 10 granddaughters; five grandsons; siblings, Curtis Burgess, of Red Rock, Bonnie Diedrich, of Marshall and Jackie Cardenas, of Guthrie and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Margurite Lola; sisters, Jewell, Maggie and Ann and brothers, Sonny, Mark and Ralph.
Traditional Native America services will be held at the Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center in Red Rock. A traditional noon feast with burial to follow will be held at Otoe Missouria Burial Grounds on Wednesday, Sept. 20 under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
