Gil W. Morris of Ponca City joined his Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, Aug. 12, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was 68 years of age. Gil was born on August 17, 1949 in Pawnee, to Gilbert F. Morris JR and Georgie M Johnson Morris.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018 in the First Baptist Church with his nephew Pastor Russell Hughes and Pastor Michael Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairfax City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family in attendance from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to receive friends and relatives. Arrangements are in care of Grace Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be done through Hospice of North Central Oklahoma and First Baptist Church of Ponca City.
Gil grew up and attended school in Ralston. He excelled in basketball and was All State in High School.
He married the love of his life Sandy Trisdale on September 19, 1967 in Fairfax. Gil joined the United States Air Force in May of 1969 and after three years of service he was Honorably Discharged at the rank of SGT. Gil worked numerous jobs to support his family until he found his calling to Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and he served the Ponca City area for over 30 years, retiring in December of 2015. Through the years of his boys growing up Gil enjoyed attending their basketball games and then when grandchildren came into his life he hardly missed a game they were playing. He also enjoyed playing golf. Gil was a member of First Baptist Church of Ponca City.
Survivors include wife Sandy of the home; two sons, Loy Morris and wife Casey of Shawnee; Scott Morris and wife Summer of Enid; mother Georgie Morris of Stillwater; two sisters, Patricia and Bill Chaffin of Raytown, MO; Pam and Red Felix of Pawnee; his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Shari Hughes of Fairfax; five grandchildren; Chase Morris, Tanner Morris, Bryce Morris, Brennan Morris and Avery Morris. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Gil was preceded in death by his father.
