Betty Lou Sparks Simpson, age 91, formerly of Ponca City, resident of Frisco, TX, passed peacefully Saturday, June 8, 2019, in Frisco.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at Trout Funeral Home Thursday June 13 from 3-8 pm with the family present to greet friends from 5-6. Betty’s life will be celebrated at a funeral ceremony held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 14, 2019 at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Cindy Robertson-Riedel officiating. Following the ceremony, she will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Betty was born on October 16, 1927 in the Township of Mirable, MO to Jerry Frank Sparks and Willie Juanita Clevenger Sparks. She was raised on a farm near Cameron, MO and graduated from Cameron high school. On July 18, 1945, she was married to Burnard Simpson, and was a devoted wife and mother while also choosing to work accounting and sales positions at various times. Her last position included becoming the first female store manager for J. M. McDonald Co, when such positions were male dominated. She was involved in her family’s church and community activities for the many decades spent in Wichita KS, retired to an adventurous traveling life for a few years, and eventually selected Ponca City as a final residence with Burnard. She was active in the Aviation Booster Club and St. Paul’s Methodist Church activities until his death, after which she moved to Frisco TX to live with her family for her remaining years.

Survivors include son, Dr. Glen Alan Jason Simpson and wife Sharyn of Frisco TX, brother in law Sam Simpson and wife Donna of Tulsa, OK, sister in law Joy Bowers of Cameron, MO, grandchildren Daniel Simpson and wife Nicole of Dallas, TX, and Krystin Lowe and husband Derick of McKinney, TX, as well as other dear family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Harold Sparks, and sister Carol Jean Sparks.
